It’s funny when you think of alcoholics of the past, in an era before internet, or at least before cellphones because I was going to bars and partying in the internet era, even in the cellphone era, just not THIS cellphone era….but yeah…the bars were a great place to meet other drunks, who for the most part were interesting, had funny stories, some successful in their careers, some amazing artists and musicians, just a meeting of fucking minds over a pint of beer…where you’d broaden your reach and you’d be present in the moment…it was almost inspiring if you remembered it when you woke up in a ditch somewhere reeking of cigarettes, puke and late night hot dog mustard…
People didn’t care about being cool, being seen, putting on a performance, the only assholes in the bar were the one’s putting on the show, trying to get attention on them, and I am sure I was that asshole sometimes…but it wasn’t for a virtual audience…where I was using the bar as my stage or set for my internet production..it just happened to be where I was a drunken mess….piss covered and trying to grab tits or whatever it is I did….I am sure there are stories….I just don’t remember them…another benefit of not documenting your every move..
Now bars are likely not open everywhere, they aren’t open here, and I am sure this generation doesn’t miss it, they’ll never leave their houses again, they can earn money, collect government subsidies, talk to their virtual friends, rather than actually connect with real people, making it far less stressful…even sex is hook up culture, not actual connection, just a random dick for a random pussy that barely know each other, but know each other’s fake front….
You don’t see the worst of people, you see the curated version of people, everyone on at all times….and there’s not much community, inspiration or fun in that…
Now, I could be the old timer saying the “in my day it was better”..but the truth is that it was better, people were as fucked up, but not quite AS fucked up…people weren’t hopped on brain meds, we did street drugs and drank, the fun way…and the only benefit of all this modern time shit…is that the girls are fucking hotter, more naked, more into hardcore vulgar sex acts…which I guess is far better than meeting other drunks to pontificate about shit you know nothing about…you know like it was twitter before twitter….no one cared then…no one cared now…but it’s funny that being in a bar drinking with strangers and striking up a conversation without matching on an app….is now nostalgic…like an old Christmas movie….becuase society is the fucking worst…
